After the scarlet fever rash begins to fade, peeling of the skin—especially on the fingertips, toes, and sometimes the palms and soles—is common. The peeling usually appears as thin, fine layers of skin coming off, and while it can look dramatic, it is typically not painful. This phase generally lasts 1 to 3 weeks, gradually resolving on its own. Keeping the skin moisturized and avoiding picking at the peeling areas can help prevent irritation or secondary infections.
