To prevent spreading paratyphoid fever at home, strict hygiene is essential. The infected person should wash hands thoroughly with soap and clean water after using the toilet and before touching food. If possible, they should use a separate toilet, or shared ones must be disinfected regularly. Utensils, towels, and clothes used by the patient should be washed separately in hot water. The patient should also avoid preparing food for others until fully recovered. Drinking only boiled or filtered water and eating freshly cooked food further reduces the risk. A person with paratyphoid can remain contagious for several weeks, as bacteria may continue to pass in stool or urine, so maintaining these precautions until the doctor confirms recovery is very important.
